State Farm Requires Fire Resistant Landscaping
Homeowners in high fire risk areas are being required to comply with new fire safe guidelines if they want to remain insured by State Farm, one of the nation's largest homeowners insurance providers. Areas that are determined high risk include Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, Heber/Overgaard, Linden, Pinedale and Clay Springs. The policy will also effect areas in other states including Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada.
Agents are working with their clients to help them come into compliance with the new policy which will come into full effect soon. Homeowners will have 2 years to come into compliance with the new policy.
Recent studies and local experience shows that homes that have fire safe or Fire Resistant Landscaping stand a much greater chance of surviving a devastating fire.
This action comes after years of prompting from the forest service for insurance companies to create and enforce new fire safe landscaping policies.
