Fire Departments will classify structures based on their defensibility, that is how easy or difficult it will be to defend the home from fires.  That defensibility is largely determined by how the property surrounding the house is maintained, and whether or not the home has Fire Resistant Landscaping.

Landscapes are deemed fire resistant in many ways, not only by what is installed, but also by what is not present in the landscape.
